School
nurses collaborate with parents to achieve the co-operative goal of having safe,
happy, and healthy children in safe and healthy schools and homes. As part of
that collaborative effort, please take note of these important
details.
Medications:
Medication that is to be administered at school must be brought to school by a
parent or designated adult in the pharmacy labeled bottle. By NH law, a
new physician authorization/instruction form signed by both the doctor and the
parent must be given to the nurse each year.
New
medical conditions, medications, or allergies: It is extremely
important that you keep the nurse informed as the school year progresses
regarding any medical changes that occur with your child.
Illness: Sometimes, early in the
morning, it is difficult to tell if your child is ill enough to stay home.
Generally speaking, if a child has a fever or is vomiting during the previous
night or that morning, he/she should remain at home. Also if your doctor has
prescribed an antibiotic, the student must stay home for 24 hours after starting
the medicaiton to be considered non-contagious.
Absence:
If your child will be tardy or must miss school, please call the school before
school begins, otherwise, when attendance is taken, a staff member will contact
a parent to account for the whereabouts of that child to ensure his/her
safety.
Emergency
contact phone numbers: Please notify the nurse ASAP if there are any
changes in your home, work, cellular or emergency contact person telepnone
numbers, so we can alwasy reach you or someone who can take responsibility for
your child.
Recess: Because recess is an
important part of the elementary school student's physical and social education,
when weather permits, all students are required to go outside unless they have a
doctor's note restricting outside play. Students must have clothes appropriate
for the weather for outside recess every day. Contact your school nurse if you
need assistance obtaining winter clothing.
Lice:
Please check your child weekly and notify the nurse if you discover any lice or
nits. Don't panic; head lice are a nuisance but not a health risk. Much
informaiton is available in the health office on prevention and
treatment.
